Mechanical Engineer – Warehouse Operations

Role Overview
We are seeking a skilled and proactive Mechanical Engineer to support the maintenance and optimisation of mechanical systems within our warehouse facility in Cardiff. The successful candidate will play a key role in ensuring equipment reliability, minimising downtime, and supporting continuous improvement across operations.
Key Responsibilities
- Maintain, repair, and service warehouse machinery and mechanical systems (e.g., conveyor systems, sorting equipment, lifting equipment)
- Carry out planned preventative maintenance (PPM) to reduce equipment downtime
- Diagnose mechanical faults and implement effective solutions
- Support installation and commissioning of new equipment and machinery
- Ensure compliance with health and safety regulations at all times
- Maintain accurate maintenance records and documentation
- Collaborate with warehouse and operations teams to improve efficiency
- Monitor equipment performance and recommend improvements
- Participate in continuous improvement initiatives and projects
- Liaise with external contractors and suppliers when required
Skills & Experience Required
Essential:
- Proven experience as a Mechanical Engineer, Maintenance Engineer, or similar role
- Strong knowledge of mechanical systems and fault-finding techniques
- Experience working in a warehouse, manufacturing, or industrial environment
- Understanding of health and safety regulations and safe working practices
- Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and manuals
- Strong problem-solving and organisational skills
Desirable:
- Relevant engineering qualification (e.g., HNC/HND/Degree in Mechanical Engineering or similar)
- Experience with automation systems and conveyors
- Basic knowledge of electrical systems or multi-skilled engineering
- Experience with CMMS (Computerised Maintenance Management Systems)
- Welding or fabrication skills
Working Hours
- Typically 40 hours per week
- Shift work may be required, including evenings, weekends, or on-call duties
